About Palliative Care...

I'm sorry, I've been using "palliative care" and "hospice care" interchangably.  I was confused.  Hospice care is one possible type of palliative care--the one that most people are familiar with. Contrary to what I've been telling everyone,  Seraph is NOT on hospice care.

Seraph is home on palliative care.
"Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) specializes in the relief of the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness. The goal is to prevent and ease suffering and to offer patients and their families the best possible quality of life. It is useful at any stage of an illness. And it can be provided at the same time as treatment that is meant to cure you." - getpalliativecare.org

What an education we are all getting. I am learning all sorts of new words. I appreciate the explanations you give. You do a good job communicating.

Seraph looked much improved today. She was calmer and her eyes seemed to focus better. (She didn't look like she wanted to "get out of here." I think she liked the children playing happily near her. Seraph's Mommy is happier, too, and is beautiful as she attends to her little ones. Gma

That's a relief. My grandma was on hospice care, which as I understood was that she stayed at a home, and someone took care of her needs but not her illness because they knew she was gonna die soon. That's NOT what I thought was happening with Seraph, though, and I'm glad you cleared that up.

Thanks for the definition. I understood hospice care was basically the last stage when someone is close to the end & there's nothing more that can be done. I'm so glad to hear Seraph isn't getting hospice care!
